USEAGE

WEB SPACE
Normally expressed is gigabytes (GB) this is the amount of space that is allocated to you on our server to store your web pages and images etc.. For most sites this is usually more than sufficient.

You should employ best practice and ensure that only the files needed on the site are uploaded. Do not upload original files that were used in the creation of the site. You will be able to login to your control panel and monitor the amount of space that you are using.

DATA TRANSFER
Every time someone lands on a page of your site they are "downloading" that page together with any images, sound files and video files that are embedded into the page. It's not a good idea to have sound or video files playing automatically when the page loads as you may well be paying for something that the user doesn't want to see or hear.

Unfortunately the term "bandwidth" is being mis-used all over the Internet. The 'bandwidth' is actually the size of the pipe feeding the server from the backbone, unfortunately it now seems to be used as a method of describing the amount of data that has been downloaded from the site.

BANDWIDTH
Your account has been allocated 5GB of "bandwidth" each month and when you login to your control panel you will see how much you have used this month and your total usage for the previous month. In reality, with a two minute video clip of (say) 15mb, this should give you about 300 downloads; leaving a bit spare for normal site access. We recommend you keep your showreel/demo down to 2/3 minutes; if the viewer can see the end in sight they're more likely to stay the course. If faced with a 5/6 minute programme they may well bail out before the end so ensure you get the good stuff up front. Treat your showreel/demo like a press release, come in strong with the glitz and the strong message then deliver the detail later; if you capture their attention at the begining then they're more likely to stay and if you're selling different services/products use different clips.

Many companies will offer you accounts with unlimited amounts of space and unlimited or unmeasured bandwidth/data transfer but before you sign up with them you should read their Terms & Conditions, Service Level Agreements and/or Acceptable Use Policy to ensure that you will not be in breach of contract. Most do not allow you to serve video or audio for example. They will take down your site if its in breach of their policies.

We will not take down you site because it is popular. If the popularity your site impacts on the other sites on the same server we will either move your site to another server, ask you to purchased some additional bandwidth/data transfer or, in severe circumstances, offer you a server of your own which we would manage on your behalf.
